The Music of Verborgen . . .
Echoes of Cabaret meld with hope and doom, but the way
remains clear. The specter recognizes distant images from
another space in time, as the many notes unfold. Are
these images of the past or ancient windows through which
we gaze, looking forward?
Verborgen seems to accentuate, and yet illuminate what
is perceived as deep and dark. Conversely, creating
passageways of light with our notes, we appear to lead
the wanton spirits up and out of the abyss, to be
transformed and finally liberated. I can envisage breeze
ways and flowing streams of sorts, connecting lyrics to
the music, conveying an almost audio-kaleidoscopic
effect.
Warm tapestries are woven, in an ancient pattern. As
voyeurs into the past, our electric and modern selves
find appropriate corners from which to observe. We are
here, but remember, associate and contemplate from whence
we came. In tying the ancient to the new, the music of
Verborgen portends an ever perilous, pervading future.
Regarding our strongest influences, they are
essentially esoteric -- certain rare souls have touched
us so intrinsically that we shall never escape their
influence.
No role models loom largely.
Our foundation is primarily Classical, with moderate
Jazz, Traditional and World influences. We do, however,
remain socially and musically attuned to the
contemporary. In past recording, our instrumentation
focused primarily on vocals, with grand piano and Spanish
guitar. In recent recording, we have utilized six-string
bass, exotic percussion and drums, electric guitar,
cello, and multi-winds.
Our current players bring to Verborgen a lush
instrumental backdrop, adding many rich tones and fluid
colors to our paintings in sound. The original trio of
Verborgen painted a dramatic, Winter landscape. Now, all
ears and eyes are opened to behold the music in its
Springtime, teaming with new life -- animated, and in
full bloom. Searching minds propel our collective
destiny.
The Message of
Verborgen . . .
Paradox preponderates within the lyrics of Verborgen.
Ours are poetic lyrics addressing the conflict between
nature and technology, human regrets and error.
References to Prophecy and The Apocalypse loom of yet
uncertain doom. Albeit earth and its creatures face
danger and the human spirit is in peril, the message
these lyrics impart can be simultaneously
confrontational, challenging and comforting . . .
The paradox prevails. It is the Zen of Zen -- the
Being of Not being.
We all have the power within us to change our
perspective on the parody!
In Conclusion . . .
There is No Conclusion . . .
Personifying Verborgen, we have come forth with some
rather saturnine material of a pleading, secretive, yet
revealing and emotional nature. Those contributing to
Verborgen seem to gel, harmonize, and regenerate one
another. Looking upward and inward, we try making sense
of this chaotic, yet glorious Maya of a universe.
Ours is a picturesque and uncommon road,
introspectively observed and gingerly traveled!
I am grateful for the special impetus we have found
here. Join us as we patter along, wide-eyed . . .
ever-questioning!
Genug!
Carpe Noctem . . . !
Until the answers come . . .
Yours,
Xyra and Verborgen.
